How
to Use This Book
The
format of this book should be apparent from the sample pages, but you
may want to
take note of a few other things:
-
This
book can be read straight through, or you can skip around as you
please. We recommend asking questions in the Christian Walk;
Theological Beliefs; Dating, Courtship, and Engagement; and Marriage
sections earlier in your relationship rather than later.
-
The
full text of all the verses referenced in this book are contained in an
appendix in the back.
-
Some
of the questions may use terms with which you are not familiar. For
example, in the section on Theological Beliefs, terms such as sanctification, predestination, amillennialism, etc.
are used. These words are defined as much as possible, but since
different people often define these words differently, we sometimes
simply ask how you would define that word. If you are not familiar with
a term, “I don't know what that means” is a perfectly acceptable
answer. These questions are not designed to make anyone feel stupid or
ignorant, and we ask that you use these questions in a manner that will
build each other up.
-
These
questions are written with the purpose of aiding you in getting to know
each other. Some of the questions can get very personal and you may
want to wait to see if the relationship develops before asking (or
answering!) those questions. “I am not comfortable talking about that
right now” should be a perfectly acceptable answer.
-
These
questions are also written to help you open up to each other. It may
feel awkward or uncomfortable to share your answers at first, but it is
definitely worth it to work past the awkward feelings in order to get
to know each other better. Remember—the other person may be feeling
slightly awkward or vulnerable as well. As you share with each other,
it will strengthen the bond the two of you have (trust us—we’ve been
through this too!).
-
Some
of these questions, especially the ones about your past, may open old
wounds. If you come across such a question, we encourage you to take
the matter before God and ask Him to help you in this area of your
life. If you have been abused, if you have struggled with sin, if you
have been sinned against, remember that there is healing in Jesus.
“[B]y His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5, NKJV), and “Behold, [He]
make[s] all things new” (Revelation 21:5, KJV). We pray that these
questions will be an aid to any healing that you may need.
We
hope that you will profit from this book, and we hope the questions
in the pages within will help you relate to and learn more about the
special people in your lives.

and Laura Christian
